Touro University Nevada Uses Video Campaign to Encourage COVID-19 Vaccinations Through Social Media

The Touro University Nevada community continues to lead the way in promoting the COVID-19 vaccine across the Las Vegas Valley and beyond.

Students and faculty have already administered more than 20,000 vaccinations throughout Southern Nevada, and the university is using its social media accounts to encourage more and more people to get vaccinated.

To complement Touro’s current COVID-19 content, the university wanted to use personal testimonials, including a mixture of unique perspectives and scientific research from students, faculty, and staff, as a way to help encourage the Southern Nevada community to get vaccinated.

Touro launched its COVID-19 vaccine video campaign a few months ago with a video testimonial from Dr. Wolfgang Gilliar, Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“I want to encourage everyone to get vaccinated. We are not out of the woods yet,” Dr. Gilliar said in his video that received 650 views on Instagram that was also shared by the American Association of the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM)’s Instagram account.

Touro’s students have also played a prominent role in the video campaign.

“As a member of this community, I felt responsible to get vaccinated so that we can reach herd immunity faster,” Ellie Ok, a third-year medical student, said in her video that received more than 1,000 views on Instagram.

“Things have just opened back up. We are able to go back to school, and I want to do my part in keeping it that way. COVID numbers are on the rise again, so I encourage you to get vaccinated,” said David Beske, a second-year student in the School of Physical Therapy, in his video that received more than 700 views on Instagram.

Shannon McDowell, a Recruitment and Program Manager in the Office of Admissions, discussed how important the science behind the vaccine was to ease the tension of those who may be reluctant to get vaccinated.

“Working at Touro, the largest medical school in Nevada, I believe in science. I know scientists and researchers have been working on these types of vaccines forever, so I felt very comfortable taking the vaccine,” she said.

To date, Touro University Nevada’s COVID-19 vaccine video campaign has garnered more than 6,000 views across its social media channels.
