Staff Profile: Cristian Dones, Medical Assistant, Health Center

Cristian Dones never really knew what he wanted to do after high school. He just knew that he wanted to help people.

“My dad worked as a chef and I saw the fast-paced environment he worked in,” Dones recalled. “And my mom was always very caring, a quality that has always stuck with me.”

Dones, a medical assistant at the Health Center at Touro University Nevada, applies his caring nature in the fast-paced environment daily. After graduating from Everest College, Dones became a phlebotomist at Quest Diagnostics where he worked for a few months before joining the Health Center at Touro.

Since 2014, he’s brought his strong work ethic and kind heart to the patients at the Health Center.

“I connect very easily with the patients here. It feels like a family,” he said.

Dones said he begins every day with a prayer. After that, he makes sure everybody in the Health Center is triaged before looking for additional projects to complete. Whether it’s refilling medications, drawing blood, returning phone calls, or making a trip to the warehouse, Dones does whatever it takes to get the job done.

The people he works with, as well as the patients he sees, are the main reasons Dones enjoys coming to work every day.

“The staff, my team, everybody. Not just at the Health Center, but everyone on campus. We all have a strong bond, and I love it,” he said. “I refer to the Health Center as my second home.”

While Dones works full time at the Health Center, he’s also going to school to get his nursing degree. His drive to help others while working in a fast-paced environment have come to fruition, and he is excited for what the future holds.

“I’m at that point of my life where I want to continue to grow and learn as much as I can,” he said. “I can’t wait to see it all come together.”
